My Five Favourite Luxury Cars
Luxury Car Number 1: Cadillac Escalade/EXT
To begin my list of favourite luxury cars is the Escalade. Starting its life as a humble re-badge of the Tahoe/Yukon, the Cadillac Escalade has become so much more than just another luxury sports utility vehicle. The newest Escalades are amazingly comfortable, spacious, and even come with hybrid drive trains that make the most iconic bling vehicle in the world somewhat green.
While the Escalade made its debut for the 1999 model year, it wasn’t until 2007 that the vehicle really came into its own as the third generation hit the streets. Based on the GMT 900 platform, the modern Escalade starts at US,495 and can easily top 0,000. For those that demand luxury, power, comfort and bling, there is no alternative to the Escalade.
Luxury Car Number 2: Mercedes-Benz CLS550
Mercedes-Benz has been making some of the most gorgeous and luxurious automobiles on the road forever, and the vehicles with CLS550 badges on them are no exception.
Of course, a Merc makes my list of favourite luxury cars! Swoopy lines define the style while excellent handling and a potent 382 horsepower 5.5L V8 give the CLS550 some serious power. This means that the modern Lincoln might not handle the slalom as quickly as a 7 series but there are precious few vehicles on the road that have a ride that is equally as supple and detached from road conditions as the Lincoln Town Car.

While most people tend to think of Hyundai as a manufacturer of bargain-basement economy cars, the truth is that Hyundai has been successfully marketing luxury cars in Asia, Europe, and Africa for more than a decade. The company’s newest version of the Equus was released in 2009 worldwide, and it is on my top five favourite luxury car list because it combines reliability with power, comfort and affordability. In short, this is a luxury car that the average consumer could actually hope to attain.
With 385 horsepower on tap, the Equus is no slouch and it receives favourable reviews, even when compared to rivals such as the Lexus LS 460 and Mercedes-Benz S550. While no final price point has been determined for the U.S. spec Equus, the figures of US,000 and ,000 have both been tossed around. While those are in line with Cadillacs and other top-end luxury marques, there is little doubt that the Korean-made Equus will be more reliable and durable in the long run.
How a Compact SUV Can Also Be a Luxury SUV
The compact SUV has become more popular than ever in recent years in Australia as drivers seek sport utility vehicles that can haul, tow, and travel off road, yet get better mileage from each litre of petrol than their larger brethren. In recent years, there has also been an increased desire among Australians to purchase luxury vehicles capable of getting them from one place to another in quiet, comfort, and style. As a result, both the compact SUV market and luxury vehicle markets are booming. However, a number of drivers mistakenly think that they have to choose between the two kinds of vehicles; they are not aware that it is possible to have both in the same vehicle. It is possible for a compact SUV to also provide as much luxury as a person could desire.
Perhaps the first step to turning a compact SUV into a luxury SUV without losing its SUV sensibilities is to make sure you are starting from a solid foundation.
This means starting from an SUV with a unibody design, as this will be more resistant to flex and will provide you with a smoother and more stable ride. You will also want to make sure your SUV is derived from either a small family car platform or from a compact car. The vehicle or frame from which your compact SUV is derived will have a significant impact on the comfort of the ride; compact SUVs that are truck based tend to have harsher and less forgiving rides, which are not very compatible with the idea of luxury.
Once you have some of the basics taken care of, the next steps are to think about the features you would like to have for comfort, style, and quiet. These, of course, are the factors that make your compact SUV more than a compact SUV, but a luxury SUV as well. For example, some drivers are particularly interested in sound deadening, as if you have a noisy vehicle, it is hard to think of it as a luxury ride. When all you hear is the noise of the highway and your engine and your tires and every gust of wind as you drive down the road, luxury will be the last thing on your mind. On the other hand, when you have an SUV that is quiet on the inside and smooth on the outside, then you can soon come to forget you are even driving in an SUV. This is what it means to have luxury.
Similarly, you will want to determine how important other features are for you, such as an automatic transmission instead of a standard, or third row seating. You might also want to look into features like sun roofs and moon roofs, as well as heated seats or leather seats. These are the small things that make all the difference when trying to find luxury within a compact SUV.
On cold days, having those heated seats can really make a difference. When it comes to driving, you will also want to look for things like power adjustable seats and mirrors, as that kind of extra comfort can really make the drive to work a more bearable ordeal. If you can find heated mirrors and rear wind shield wipers, you will also increase your chances of enjoying your drive. Keep in mind, however, that you do not have to have all of these features built into whatever you are searching for in order for you to drive in luxury. What is important is to decide which features you need and find a company that can provide them.

How to rent cars without a credit card
Traditionally renting a car meant that only those with a reliable and established credit history were able to access car rentals. Credit cards were required in order to even reserve a car for rental and those looking to rent a car who lacked a credit card were turned away. However since many debit cards on the same processor as the major credit cards some car rental agencies do allow debit card holders to use the debit card to make a deposit on the rental and pay with the card for the rental fees.

Contact the car rental company before going to rent a car. Ask them about the possibility of using a debit card instead of a credit card to rent the vehicle with. If possible you want to utilize a debit card that has a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express imprint on it as these companies process both credit cards and debit cards.

If the card rental company does accept debit cards pay attention carefully to the additional requirements they may demand to accept debit instead of credit. These requirements may include a minimum age requirement, additional forms of ID along with the required driver’s license, and a recent pay stub. Each car rental agency is different in terms of what they will request.

Ensure that the checking account linked to your debit card has sufficient funds in it before going to the car rental company. Note that you may need to have more than the actual rental cost in the account due to “holding,” a process where a company or merchant “holds” a certain amount of money until the debit clears or the rental is returned in good condition. If you are unsure if you have sufficient funds you should inquire with the car rental company in advance to see what the “hold” amount will be.

Contact your bank that issued the debit card if you will be getting the car rental outside of your normal shopping area or away from home as some banks restrict purchases outside your home area. Inform them that you will be renting a vehicle out of state and where this will take place.

Bring the required forms of ID and other paperwork requested by the rental company for debit card rentals. Bring the debit card. If possible bring a second debit card just in case the first one is declined.

Provide all the documentation to the car rental agency employee. Carefully read over the terms and conditions of the rental agreement including fees and penalties for damage to the vehicle, late returns, processing fees for use of debit, and any overdraft fees charged for insufficient funds in your account.
Tips & Warnings
Be aware that some car rental agencies may limit which cars are available to rent to debit card only users and the “hold” amount may be higher for more expensive models.
